Back in the long, long ago, amethyst was considered a precious gemstone similar to diamonds, sapphires, or emeralds. Once the Europeans discovered the vast deposits of amethyst in South America and Africa, they downgraded it to a semi-precious material. Sort of like what happened to Pluto… Justice for Pluto and Amethyst!
